BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - Action in the two-week AAU Junior Olympics heats up Tuesday with beach volleyball for girls at Lori Wilson Park's north and south venues in Cocoa Beach.
Beach volleyball continues each day from about 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sunday.
Other events coming up:
Bowling: Wednesday, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at River Lanes in Titusville
Basketball: Thursday through Sunday at multiple high school gyms: Heritage, Melbourne, Palm Bay, West Shore, Rockledge, Cocoa Beach (except Sunday in CB)
Flag football 7 on 7 (youth): Saturday and Sunday, now Aug. 8-9, Viera Regional Park
Flag football 7 on 7 (adult male and female): Aug. 8-9 at Viera Regional Park
Presidential Youth Fitness Program: Now Aug. 8 at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High
Karate: Saturday at Cocoa Beach Recreation Center
Footgolf: Now Aug. 8, 2 p.m. at Mallards Landing Golf Course, Melbourne
Soccer: (youth and adults 7 on 7): Aug. 8-9 at Mitchell Ellington Park on Merritt Island
Track and field: Aug. 5-8 at Satellite High School
Swimming: July 30-Aug. 1 at Cocoa Beach Aquatic Center
Taekwondo: Aug. 8 at The Big House, Tavares
Archery: Aug. 8-9 at Easton Newberry Archery Center, Newberry
Parking fees will be charged in most cases as well as admission, which will be limited. Please bring your mask.
Golf (Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee) and stand-up paddle boarding (Turkey Creek in Palm Bay) took place over the weekend.
World champion stand-up paddleboarder Seychelle Webster of Melbourne Beach was on hand to support the event and provide tips to the competitors. It was the first time AAU had stand-up as a sport.
Some 4,000 athletes are competing in the AAU Junior Olympics, presented by Publix. In 1994, Brevard county hosted the full complement of AAU Games. This year's field has been whittled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
