(May 10, 2016) – The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is partnering with FloSports this summer to live stream 10 Regional Qualifier track meets across the U.S. exclusively on FloTrack.com, the two organizations announced today. The events build up to the 50th annual AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston, Tex., July 27 – Aug. 6, 2016.
“This partnership allows the AAU to provide a unique opportunity for these youth athletes to perform live for family and friends across the world,” said Dr. Roger J. FloSports broadcasts more than 25,000 hours of live sporting events each year and has more than 1 million videos in their online library across their 12 dedicated sport websites, including FloTrack.com and MileSplit.com. The alignment marks the first time AAU regional qualifying events will be streamed live for an expected 10,000 participating athletes and their families.
"We're committed to covering track and field across all levels of the sport, and partnering with the AAU is an incredible opportunity to highlight the top youth athletes in the world," FloSports co-founder and CEO Martin Floreani said. "There's no better way to grow the sport than to work with the world's preeminent track and field association to cover the lead-up to the 2016 AAU Junior Olympic Games."
Elite athletes frequent AAU regional qualifiers, as recognizable athletes including Robert Griffin III, Ezekiel Elliott and Jordy Nelson all competed as youth athletes. Rio 2016 Olympic Games gold medal hopeful Vashti Cunningham, daughter of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham, competed in AAU regional qualifying events last year.
“This is groundbreaking for the AAU,” said Charles Oliver, AAU Athletics National Chair. “And it is only the first step. We look forward to providing a similar opportunity for as many of the more than 46,000 AAU Athletics members we have nationwide.”
The events expected to be livestreamed will be held in Galloway. N.J. (June 24-26), Knoxville, Tenn. (June 29-July2), Savannah, Ga. (June 30-July 3), Decatur, Ill. (June 30-July 3), St. Louis, Mo.
