COACHES CLINIC AT AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES

The AAU Junior Olympic Games is one of the largest Track & Field events in the country, with nearly 10,000 athletes. This year, this event will take place at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.

“I am very happy to announce the inaugural 2015 Kenneth Giles AAU Track & Field Coaches Clinic at the AAU Junior Olympic Games,” said Charles Oliver, AAU Track & Field National Sport Chair. “We are very excited to be able to partner with Norfolk State University and their Head Coach of Track & Field, Kenneth Giles, along with the rest of the track staff at this incredible university. We feel like this is an excellent opportunity to educate and promote our sport.”

The Kenneth Giles AAU Track & Field Coaches Clinic will coincide with the AAU Track & Field’s program “Motivate and Educate,” which allows fans and athletes the opportunity to learn more about the sport they love.

“With the Motivate and Educate program, our goal is to be able to provide opportunities in which our members will be able to learn various aspects of the sport of Track & Field,” explained Oliver. 

Norfolk State University will host several seminars for various Track & Field events including long jump, sprint, high jump, horizontal jumps, race walking and the 400m, along with many more!

AAU Track & Field is one of the largest sports in the Amateur Athletic Union, hosting their National Championship events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, along with several Regional and District events around the nation. The Track & Field portion of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is the largest and longest in the event and features several thousand athletes every year from around the nation. Several Olympians, including Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Bershawn Jackson, Sanya Richards Ross, Darnell Hall and Lamont Smith have made appearances at AAU Track & Field events. Oliver adds that he plans on continuing these clinics in the years to come.
