SPRING, TX (Sept. 15, 2013) - The Texas Stallions Track Club is joining the fight to end childhood obesity by hosting a fun run and fitness zone on October 19, 2013. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition! (We Can! ®) program, nearly 1 in 3 children in America are overweight or obese. Overweight youth are at greater risk for numerous health consequences, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.

As a youth sports organization, we at the Texas Stallions Track Club are huge advocates for health and fitness. The Stallions Stampede 2k/5k Run-Walk, 10k Relay and We Can!®  FitZone is a part of the Stallions partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and NIH’s We Can!® program. “This event is exactly the kind of event that encourages youth to get out and get active in a fun way,” says Head Cross Country Coach Lavoxkeia Carnes!

The Stallions Stampede 2K/5k Run-Walk, 10k Relay and We Can!®  FitZone takes place on October 19, 2013 at the Forest Oaks Park, in Spring, Texas with check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m. All participants will receive a free technical t-shirt, goodie bag, and access to a fun pre-race party.  The event will be divided into three races, the 2k, 5k and the 10k, and the participants receiving the fastest completion times within their age division will receive awards and prizes.

The We Can!® FitZone is a FREE festival offering fun interactive activities, health related samples, and demonstrations for the community to learn creative ways to get active and eat well!
