BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - You hear their voices on the loudspeaker every year at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, and their end-of-race calls in the booth during championship finals may be imprinted in your brain -- 'How about it!', 'New National Record!' -- for eternity, but you may not know their stories. So that led us down a path to find out more. In 2019, MileSplit and FloTrack went behind the scenes to figure out more about AAU's in-race announcers, and in doing so we asked them some important questions: When did they first start, what makes them keep coming back, and just how hard is it to call races over a weeks-plus worth of action?
