Troy University alumni work together to present the premier youth indoor track event for second straight year

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is excited to team up again with Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC), for the 2022 AAU Track and Field Indoor National Championships. The meet will return to the Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia, starting March 11, 2022. This year, there is even more excitement as two Troy University Alumni are working together.

Through this agreement, AAU and NOVEC collaborate to offer a top-notch event for AAU members, parents, and coaches nationwide. The collaboration is a match made in heaven that brings incredible value to the future of the sport. Charles ‘Coach O’ Oliver, the AAU Track and Field National Chair, and Wilbur Rollins, NOVEC’s Senior Vice President, are both Troy University Track & Field alumni.

“It is especially gratifying to me to be able to work on this project with Wilbur Rollins, a fellow Troy {State} University Alumni,” said Charles ‘Coach O’ Oliver, AAU Track and Field National Chair. “The opportunity for us to work together on the AAU Indoor National Championship allows us to bring the resources of the two organizations together to provide a strong competitive opportunity for the youth.”

Coach O was an All-American, record setting and world class 400-meter competitor in college while attending the then named, Troy State University.  Oliver was a graduate assistant coach in 1980 before becoming the head coach of the Track team in 1981.

“NOVEC is pleased to co-sponsor AAU’s Track and Field Indoor National Championships,” said Wilbur Rollins, NOVEC senior vice president. “As a participant in AAU events in Montgomery, Alabama in the mid-1970s, and in track and field for many years, I appreciate the leadership and team building values afforded by participating in these events at a young age.” Mr. Rollins participated in basketball, and track and field while attending Cloverdale Junior High and Jefferson Davis High schools in Montgomery and at Troy State University (now Troy University).

The AAU Track & Field Indoor National Championships, presented by NOVEC and Team IP, will be held March 11th – 13th at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. Athletes from coast to coast will travel to Virginia Beach to compete against one another in one of the finest facilities in the nation.

Coach O added, “I cherish the opportunity to work with a Troy Alumni and I appreciate Wilbur and NOVEC's desire to invest in the future of our youth and the sport of track & field.”
