Around 3,000 athletes are expected to make the journey to Virginia Beach to compete at the 2023 AAU Indoor Track and Field Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Vir. (February 27, 2023) – The AAU Track and Field 2023 Indoor season is on its final lap and the finish line is in sight. The season will wrap up with the 2023 AAU Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The event will take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 3-5, 2023.
For the eighth (8th) year, the AAU Indoor Track and Field National Championships will bring athletes from across the nation with one final opportunity at taking home an AAU Indoor National Championship. This will be the third (3rd) year in a row that the event is hosted at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center indoor track facility features a 200 meter, hydraulically banked track, 8-lane straightaway as well as providing 6 lanes around the oval. Athletes will have the opportunity to race in one of the finest facilities in the nation. The facility can hold 5,000 spectators and is just steps away from local shops, restaurants, and attractions, including the beautiful boardwalk and beaches of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
An estimated 3,000 athletes are expected to make the trip to the track. With continuous growth every year of the event, 2023 will be no different. As of now, athletes from 35 different states and Canada will represent on the track. With athletes from all over North America, the best of the best will battle it out for championship gold and world records.
“Historically this meet was held on the second weekend in March. However, moving it a week earlier it is expected to produce record numbers with some of the best competition across the country,” said Charles “Coach O” Oliver, AAU Track and Field National Chair. “We look forward to seeing last year’s National Champions return to defend their title or someone coming to claim that title as the 2023 National Champion.”
The races will begin on Friday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. with the 1500m Race Walk. The top 8 finishers in individual and relay races will be receiving awards. Athletes from 5 and under up to 18 years old will be competing over the weekend.

For the third year, NOVEC and AAU Track & Field will be teaming up to host the event. A new addition this year will be Flash Results.
“We are excited about having a new Timing group, Flash Results. They time the AAU Junior Olympic Games,” said meet director, Karen Hall. “This will help us take AAU Indoor Track & Field to a new level.”
